Missions and Outreach

St. Matthew is actively involved in the following ministries:

 Monthly Mission Emphases

Each month the Missions Committee supports a local ministry such as Triune Mercy Pantry, GAIHN, Epiphany (outreach to  young women in Department of Juvenile Justice facilities), Salkehatchie Summer Service, Charles Aiken Boys Home, United Ministries, Spartanburg Methodist College, and Epworth Children's Home.

March, 2010 monthly emphasis: GAIHN

 GAIHN

The mission of the Greenville Area Interfaith Hospitality Network is to share hospitality, in the form of emergency lodging and meals, with homeless families and to help these families achieve self-sufficiency and self fulfillment. St. Matthew is one of thirteen faith groups involved and hosts families four times a year for one week, providing a place to stay and hot meals.

 United Ministries

United Ministries provides life-changing opportunities for people in Greenville County who lack education or employment skills, who are in financial crisis or who are homeless. In addition to regular food donations, gifts during the Christmas season, and many members as regular volunteers, St. Matthew contributes funds to United Ministries monthly, thus enabling all members of our church to participate in assisting less fortunate people in Greenville County.

5th Saturday at Triune Mercy Center

Members of St. Matthew serve a noon meal to approximately 100 hungry people on the 5th Saturday of the month.

Salkehatchie Summer Service

Youth and adults of St. Matthew work at selected sites throughout South Carolina, physically improving the homes of needy families and spiritually reaching out to these families in friendship.

United Methodist Volunteers in Mission

Teams of youth and adults travel to mission fields yearly.
