Benefiting the Davis Phinney Foundation
Update 12/11/11
Steve and Jeanne Quam were on YOUR CAROLINA (with Jack and Kimberly), Thursday, December 15, 2011. You can view the interview the here. In the summer of 2010, Steve, a Person with Parkinson's Disease, rode his bicycle solo across the United States. This past summer, he rode his motorcycle to Fairbanks, Alaska and back. He'll do a reunion bicycle ride (but East Coast to West Coast this time) starting mid-April, 2012. Steve and Jeanne will share about their journey with Parkinson's and Steve's physical journeys crisscrossing the USA-including his 1 day, 78 mile BICYCLE ride as a fund raiser for the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's in the 2011 Colorado Cyclist Copper Triangle after sitting on a motorcycle for 2 months!
Steve has Parkinson’s, but Parkinson’s doesn’t have Steve.
This year, he will continue to raise awareness and money for Parkinson’s. Money raised will benefit the Davis Phinney Foundation and their mission to help people with Parkinson’s live well today. The Foundation does this through programs such as: Victory Summits, Every Victory Counts and funding research to improve quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s.
Steve’s long trip this summer will bring Parkinson’s awareness to Canada & Alaska by motorcycling from SC to Fairbanks, AK, & back, leaving on June 5 & returning on September 5.
This year, he has and will continue to give presentations* at both regional & national music therapy conferences, Parkinson’s support groups, Parkinson’s disease symposiums and other Parkinson’s-related events. He will be bicycling to as many of these presentations as possible when he is not on the motorcycle.
While in Alaska, Steve hopes to connect with another adventurer with Parkinson’s: Doug of Doug's WILD Ride II.
On his way back from AK, Steve will stop in Colorado to join the Colorado Cyclist Copper Triangle bicycle ride to support the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s.
THIS WILL BE THE TOUGHEST 1 DAY BICYCLE RIDE STEVE HAS EVER ATTEMPTED...with 3 major climbs above 10,000 feet (Fremont Pass 11,318', Tennessee Pass 10,424' & Vail Pass 10,666'), making his 4,224 mile bicycle sojourn last year seem like a piece of cake.
You Can Help : Steve will appreciate your prayers and support in 2011 as he rides to Fairbanks, AK, for the Davis Phinney Foundation. They say "it takes a village to raise a kid". Well, in 2010 it took a whole nation to get Steve Quam across it on a bicycle. He's looking forward to y'all stepping up to the plate and supporting him this year. In 2012, he'll reverse the 2010 Bicycle Journey. Stay tuned.
